Blog #10 Plus Project #3

I loved this class, one of my favorite pieces of technology that I wasn't already introduced to was synchronous video chatting, it has come in handy not only for keeping in touch with my parents but also doing face to face interviews for a couple of my other assignments for school, I wouldn't have even thought of this as an option before this class. I will definitely be careful with technology in my classroom and make sure that I'm not just using it to use it but for a specific purpose that I want students to learn. I don't have any unanswered questions at this time but with some of the technological skills I've learned in this class I'm sure I will be able to find the help I need when the time comes.

Finished assignment:

Creating a Principle based Kitchen

Directions: Use Google sketch-up to create a 3D rendering of a kitchen design that follows the five principles of design. Explain how your design follows each principle.

Principles of Design:

1. Scale and Proportion
-uses human scale making sure that everything is in proportion to the height, reach, and special necessities of the average human.

2. Emphasis
-the kitchen appliances are the things that provide emphasis to different sections of the kitchen.

3. Balance
-uses asymmetrical balance high cabinets in one corner and low breakfast bar with sink in the other.

4. Harmony
-use of complementary tile color, wood construction of cabinets, and kitchen appliances; natural wood, tan ceramic slate style tile, granite countertops that don’t clash with the tiles, and metal appliances with matching metal handles and knobs for the cupboards and drawers.
5. Rhythm
-Repetition of similar colors and patterns throughout the room draws the eye to them in rhythmic patterns, the cupboards surround the room, the eye will travel to the appliances along the chain of cupboards creating rhythm in the room.

How comfortable would you be in this kitchen?
-I would be very comfortable in as it has plenty of negative space to travel around in as well as storage space within the cupboards and drawers, I am also more comfortable in kitchens made of quality goods, it makes it feel more like home to me.

How comfortable would you be in this kitchen?

Looked good! Sketchup is an amazing program. My son-in-law just landed a design contract doing some preliminary sketches with this program. Once he finishes the job, then he will purchase Sketchup 7Pro!
